All because I think technology is fascinating, but it is making people more...distant mentally? Technology gives everyone an excuse to avoid anything. I HATE not talking to people face to face. Especially when it comes to times when I'm stuck on assignments and I need to see the teacher for some assistance. Also when my friends and I have a little disagreement that can be really hard . . but then again I never know what to say to them all the time . . I'm guilty of disconnecting myself from the world with my technology. I do know that I wish I would get away from it. When my phone was turned off or when I had to get away from the internet (for Face Book) for a week or so I thought at first I would mentally die, but it actually helped me. I was more focused on my school work, I went outside more, I did some reading that I have not been doing much lately. Technology is not ALL bad, but I do believe it is making more people shy and mentally distant from human beings. Cell phones should be for emergencies...the internet should be limited lol.
So my question is 'Technology can we live with or without it'?? (Be honest here people haha)

ReplyDeleteI believe that technology is good nor bad, rather the amount of use and the way it's being used...
i.e There is a huge growing concern for cyber bulling!! This issue has being around for a while however it's now made easier to bully someone any where at any time through the use of technologies such as mobile phones or social network sites. So when you say Ngutu that internet should be limited I agree I believe especially at an age when it can be more harmful than good.
I also agree that cell phone should only be used for emergencies.
However I do believe that technologies such as the internet and mobiles phones are really good to have. The internet is great when wanting to research an assignment or to keep in touch with teachers, students and family. This is a great tool that others in the past have not had the pleasure in using. My question is how did people cope in the past without the internet or mobile phone's.......
So I think that there are certain things about the internet and mobile phones that we can live without and somethings that would be hard to image to live without.....

ReplyDeleteWell as I have been spending most of my teen years in Samoa theres a big difference with technology used in the organisations there then in NZ.
I used to work at a Law Firm in Apia (capital). And the technology is not soo great there we stilll used the windows 2003 and we manually did our work, for example we would keep individual files of each of the client so then when the computers stuff up the files we had would keep us on track. So imagine our office stacked with filing cabitnets everywhere and paper work everywhere.
In Samoa we couldnt trust computers that much as the power would go off now and then, so our work would all be lost so paper work was a must.
If I was to compare the technology used in NZ it is way more updated and 'on to it' theres no more paper work everywhere and computers are used and are depended on especially the internet hehe.
So thats my comparison with the technology used. In the Pacific the technology up to now is still old school but thats what keeps the mind going all the time you have to keep on track of everything manually without the use of the computer. Which then trains the brain to be dependent and my experience has helped me a lot on how to do things.
So yeah thats the differences that I see and what I've witnessed. Pacific Islands still use the old technology while the well developed countries use the updated version of technology as they have the money to actually buy it.

ReplyDeleteIn response to your blog - I think we CAN live WITHOUT technology! Our ancestors managed without technology so there's good evidence to show that we can - if they can, we can too. Of course, for the younger generation and society today; we heavily rely on technology for doing things i.e. banking, paying bills, emailing (instead of the old fashioned letter writing) etc.. Technology has influenced us in many ways - probably more bad ways than good! And as we have learnt to live with or without technology...as we've been the guinea pigs of technology, the even younger generation growing up will be relying solely on technology & will be more tech savvy than us!
Technology is good but it all depends on how people use it. I wouldn't encourage children to rely solely on technology because it could crash at anytime and what else would they use if all they knew is technology?? Everyone need to learn the old fashioned way of communication and living without technology cos life isn't always about technology. And of course we all know we can't rely on technology all the time.
I agree with having cellphones for emergencies and being able to get hold of someone...but I don't agree in school children having mobiles as they're not concentrating on what they should be doing in class.
Anyway, all-in-all...technology is good & bad and of course we CAN all live with it AND without!!!!
